Moldova faced Ottoman threats. #StephenTheGreat, a devout #Orthodox ruler, prayed fervently before each battle, seeking divine assistance. He vowed to build a monastery for every victory. After the Battle of Vaslui in 1475, where his much smaller army crushed the Ottoman forces, he erected the Putna Monastery, a symbol of his gratitude and faith. He continued to defend his land against invaders, building numerous churches and monasteries, becoming known as an "Athlete of Christ".
