Οδησσός has two s in greek and is a city that is strongly related to greek history. The independence of greece from turkey started there... Therefore i don't really can write it with one s. Anyway this city rather sooner than later will surely be in the epicenter of the conflict. Right now and for some time will not be a good place to be because of the war. In other words Russia has said repeatedly that this city in particular will be theirs for sure... I wouldn't like to see you in the middle of an obviously very dangerous conflict...

Discussion
How you write a sound simply depends on the language you use. Depending on the language, the same characters are articulated differently. E.g. the "c" in Ukrainian Одеса has to be written as two "s" in German to sound about the same, in English one "s" is sufficient and in Greek it is again two "σ". 🤷
Some new info I’ve got, thanks. Didn’t know about the greese connection with Odesa a lot. But I’ve asked #gpt :
Yes odesa (Οδησσός) played a role a significant one. In fact it was there that φιλική εταιρεία began, and without φιλική εταιρεία probably there would be no greek revolution. It is that important...
