due to ethylene, a gas given off by many fruits as they ripen, which speeds up their development. When we keep bananas next to apples, they are particularly exposed to it, so they ripen much more quickly.

What if you detach each piece and wrap them with Saran Wrap like a mummy? ๐Ÿ˜

I guess effect will be simillar, same as If you put them into paper bag. This way you speed up process.
