I was involved in Amway at one point.

This was a long time ago, I was very naive at the time. Walked out of a book store, dude desperately begged for cash for car out of gas. 😂 🤦♂️
Of course, I gave him some money. He didn’t look out of the ordinary or anything, thought I was genuinely helping a person.
Drove off, drive by a liquor store and see him in line buying a bottle.
That’s all. That’s what I fell for many years ago.
Oh I have an even better story, maybe for another time.
I have heard several good speakers on the topic of "when helping isn't helping."
That's a tough one, but it was pure hearted. ♥️♥️♥️
I know situations like that. At some point I decided: If I give money to someone who asks me for it on the street, then I consider whether I want to give the person something. And if I decide to do that, then whatever the person does with it is fine with me. That's his decision. I gave the money to the person and not to the circumstance behind it. It may sound naive, but I enjoy giving more this way. I no longer judge what the money is used for.
I've honestly found I give money to the ones who flat day they need beer money fairly often. I've also gone into a gas station where someone was asking for help and bought them a burger (I ate one too, guilty pleasure) and had lunch with them.
I agree on not judging, but I also see what Karnage is saying too. Enabling destructive behaviors is not good too. I'm glad people think on how to help the most helpfully are out there. Lazy me gets to benefit from and contribute to the things they discover.
Absolutely. It's more about me changing my attitude. I used to buy something to eat and then give it. Because I thought to myself that I don't want the person to buy alcohol or something like that with my money. Today I give (when I give something) basically the money. I leave it up to my counterpart to decide what to buy with it. I respect his decision. And still give from the heart

Ah Amway, one of the classic MLM scams. Lots of decent people fell for it too. You wised up, and that's something to be proud of. Years ago, a co-worker tried to pitch "Pre-Paid Legal Services"(now known as LegalShield) to me during a lunch break. The first video made it sound like a halfway decent product, but when he showed the second video which pitched downline recruitment hard, I knew it was an MLM scam and just said "Nope".
