Yo!

That's a hell of a spec. No respect.

I prefer small specs with great usability.

I also use a Thinkpad T480 =) Small enough?

All my servers are 2016-era Dells and HP, refurbished Desktops

I have a xps-13 but my daily driver is a ThinkPad T480 now. It's a really good machine.

That screenshot was my Desktop. Gaming and Stable diffusion only

My 2016 refurbished Desktops are used as servers , runs nostr relay (wss://relay.poster.place) , fediverse server, bitcoin, lightning, jellyfin, etc

So I looked at all my machines for this and all of them consume too much power. I'm in the UK so I don't have much play.

Today I bought a fanless hp with 4gb mem and 16gb sad to hopefully run:

+ Email server

+ nostr relay

+ Potentially a lightning node

I don't think I can fit anything else.

Power should be something like 20W max.

4GB will not be enough for Lightning. You need to enable Cache because Bitcoin and Lightning use a lot of IO. You don't want your SSD to kill itself faster than it should be

Well fuck.

I'll do the relay and email then.

T480 is nice right? Cheap! Had to upgrade memory to 20GB and installed backlit keyboard

Crazy cheap! I got 12 cores and 32Gb memory. Really pleased with the beast.

Comes with infrared camera which I can only consider if the CCP demanded for it.

T480 came with 12 cores? Really? Is it i7? I got i5

Oh yeah baby.

I7.

The price was a little over 1300, but I got it via a company so had a large discount.

Oh so you had it when it was new? I got mine for $200 something used a year ago

Oh, yeah. I only just bought it 2 months ago.

How can a T480 cost $1300 today?

GBP... But almost same thing.

To be fair, 1T space, 12 cores, 32 GB SSD, this is comparatively, AliExpress cheap.

Wait... You have high spec GPUs on servers? What are you building?

And I'm also probably more of mainstream (Ubuntu/mint/fedora) bro.

Although soon I will be installing Debian only on my personal machine for privacy reasons.

Mainstream sends too much data to their servers.

Oh what data ? I know systemd pings home. I forgot the rest.

I keep coming back to Debian Stable, just works, reliable.

I was on Gentoo for a few months, got annoying.

Bleeding Edge Distros are just gay

Ubuntu and fedora like to "auto complete" shit and also to send "statistics" back home about installed apps, program usages and Amazon suggestions.

Because... Why not?!

Gentoo? What are you? Polish?
