We don’t prevent it or anything, but filter.nostr.wine does require NIP-42 AUTH to read from so strfry stream/router will not support it. You’ll need to AUTH to the relay using your paid pubkey to make REQs.

This is what I thought, because I didn't see a way in strfry to do that off, which makes sense.
