Not exactly. You are right that an "idea" is not an object to IP, but a scientific, fineart, literature is IP. Even an arrangement, logo, geographical origin etc. is treated as an invention or similar. Different laws, but the principles are the same. See WIPO and one of the predecessoor, the BUE.
On the other hand copying for free and selling this copy for money is illegal without the written permission of the owner. Even the free transferring to others in any form ks illegal too, withoit written permission. See e.g. the GPL or other licence conditions. You have to find a lot of type, just see Wikipedia/Wikimedia. These are strict rules.
