Also a good thing to do is to see if there are better translations of the verse/chapter. One of the verses is translated as "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the world." (Matthew 5:5)

But the word "meek" is changed from its original meaning which was "those who have the passion of resentment under control".

Many of the Proverbs are meant to be understood as a single verse. And the Psalms are meant to be prayed as entered chapters.

But yes, for the most of the Bible this is true. The book should be understood as a whole and within the context of the of the entire canon of the Holy Scriptures.
