That said, I agree: even if you truly know you're innocent, we have constitutional rights for a reason. Only fools squander those rights.

This perspective is flawed. The constitution itself is fine (though I think the Articles of Confederation were even better), the problem is that people didn't protect it enough over the years and let the federal government balloon out of control.
