It’s hard to be on social media (including #nostr) and not start caring about the numbers. Like I’d really like to get to 500 followers, for no reason other than then I can go for 1000, and so on.

Follower count--like price--is probably something you want to check as little as possible. It's not that it's not important, or that it going up shouldn't make you happy, it's just that it's confusing the scoreboard for the game if you obsess over it, AI guess. It is a validation that you are putting out signal, though, especially for someone who wants to grow a career in media. So no shame in celebrating those milestones or else always having a new, bigger, goal in sight, imo.
