Why move slowly in Tai Chi? 🤔

Well the slow movement can be far more challenging. It places more strain on the body and mind forcing the practitioner to feel every inch of where he holds tension in his body.

When the discomfort becomes too much he must find ‘sung’ and release that tension. Sung and Ting are the two primary skills being cultivated.

Imaging doing a set of ten squats. Now do them at quarter speed feeling every tiny part of the movement. Do not allow the mind to dissociate, stay fully present however uncomfortable that is.

Over time the body becomes stronger and more released, more robust and flexible. The mind becomes calmer under pressure.

Through many repetitions the movements will become more fluid but maintain the power that was built in the slow practice. 🙏

The only time I did Tai Chi, it felt I was doing Kung Fu again, just very slowly.

I agree it is more challenging and forces you to put a lot of attention on the technique.

Thanks Paulo. 🙏
