I LOVE using follow lists with Amethyst for this use case. However I believe the specific question was about receiving a notification. This feature in Amethyst doesn't sent you a notification when someone on one of those follow lists posts a new note.

Yes, exactly. Notifications are in your face whenever you open the app. There's no missing the fact that something new you may want to see is available.
Follow lists are great, but you have to actively remember that you should check them from time to time.
