YES and yes...
like... YES when a platform depends on them so much and yes when... even if they didn't openly tell you what to censor or what to publish -- a content platform or creator can start sensing their way into self-censorship based on reactions from those buying/not buying ad space.
We all have these insidious ways to self censor just based on approval of our peers. I can only deduct that it is a trait must of us have as part of our survival mechanisms which impact our "approval rate" within the tribes we believe we must be part of, in order to , hopefully, give ourselves a chance at a lengthier lifespan.
I can almost see the beginning of the first adverts & censorship during our caveman days...
