the gif is lightweight and plays automatically without sound or fuss while I'm scrolling.

the video does not play, I have to click it, and then it annoys me...

In conclusion...

GIFs are awesome.

Lightweight? It’s quite heavy when you compare filesize. We need a proper GIFmp4 format to marry the two. Autoplay in loop with easy way to add a text layer.

Sure. It would just make it much easier to repurpose memes (how cool would it be to have a built-in way to “retweet” a gifmp4 with updated text?)
