I was just thinking about this. Many older books are relevant but written in a way that is tough for modern readers. There is an industry around that. Marcus Aurelius is a tough read for modern readers, so we have Ryan Holiday. Machiavelli and Sun Tzu are tough, so we have Robert Greene.

I don't know of anyone offering the same service for ancient history. I bet they would use this public domain book as a source though...
