the main reason it caught my attention is that it supports my crispy fresh new RX 7800 XT - fully - although what it installs adds an "upgrade" kernel that b0rked the result... but it loads off the live usb with proper credentials on the video output not just llvmpipe framebuffer

Looks beautiful but my experience with Zorin has been the opposite... always had graphics issues. Old base and old kernel for new hardware.
Agreed, but when how fast will they update to Zorin OS 18? Because just ~3 months ago they released 17, based on Ubuntu 22.04 (released in April of 2022) with 24.04 about to be released in just 2 months.
I know they have been working hard on their upgrading software with the previous release, but I still hope they don't "wait" another 2 years for the next release 🤔
