🇨🇿Labrador „Pep“ byl v Americe dvacátých let odsouzen na doživotí za mříže pensylvánské věznice. Zavraždil kočku ženy guvernéra státu Pensylvánie.
Takový příběh vymyslel sám guvernér Gifford Pinchot, který podporoval reformu amerických věznic snažících se o napravení internovaných zločinců místo jejich trestání mnohdy nelidskými způsoby, daroval Pepa roku 1924 do nově zbudované věznice Eastern State Penitentiary vlastně pro terapeutické účely. Vymysleli spolu s manželkou příběh o koťátka-vraždícím Pepovi, který si zaslouží nejtvrdší trest. Hry se chytli i samotní oficíři pensylvánské věznice, „Černý Pep“ byl řádně vyfotografován a dokonce dostal i své vězeňské číslo C2559.
☝️Eastern State Penitentiary "hostilo" i takové vězně, jako byl Al Capone. Alphonse „Scarface“ Capone poprvé ochutnal vězeňský život ve Philadelphii. Ve Philadelphii se zastavil, když cestoval z Atlantic City zpět do svého domova v Chicagu v květnu 1929. Byl zatčen před kinem za to, že měl u sebe ukrytý, nelicencovaný revolver ráže 38.
Dostal maximální trest 1 rok vězení. Capone si z tohoto trestu odpykal 7 měsíců.
Jeho vězeňské číslo bylo C5527.
🇬🇧A dog named "Pep" was sentenced to life behind bars in a Pennsylvania penitentiary in 1920s. He murdered the cat of the wife of the governor of the state of Pennsylvania.
Such a story was invented by Governor Gifford Pinchot himself, who supported the reform of USA prisons trying to reform interned criminals instead of punishing them in often inhumane ways. He donated Pep to the newly built Eastern State Penitentiary in 1924 actually for therapeutic purposes. Together with his wife, they invented a story about the kitten-murderer Pep, who deserves the harshest punishment. Even the officers of the Pennsylvania penitentiary themselves caught on to the game, "Black Pep" was duly photographed and even given his prison number C2559.
☝️Eastern State Penitentiary also "hosted" such prisoners as Al Capone. Alphonse "Scarface" Capone got his first taste of prison life in Philadelphia. He stopped in Philadelphia while traveling from Atlantic City back to his home in Chicago in May 1929. He was arrested outside a movie theater for carrying a concealed, unlicensed 38 revolver.
He received a maximum sentence of 1 year in prison. Capone served 7 months of this sentence.
