Just don't use signal at all. It was sponsored by the CIA since the beginning (search for Radio Free Asia) and then developed in Hawaii where by coincidence are the NSA headquarters and by magic adopted almost overnight by Whatsapp (facebook owned) for "privacy" deployment at a billion-sized audience.

Telegram is safer in regards to non-cooperation with west intelligence (but not private either). The most secure messenger that I know in existence are the private messages here in NOSTR.

Bulletproof encryption, decentralized location for message servers (thousands around the world, mostly by volunteers) and perfect anonymity without need for emails, phone numbers or whatever.
