Nothing. Nothing is going to wake them up. You did not live in Soviet Union if you still have any hope.
Even before the USSR disintegrated, there still were plenty of people within it believing they lived better lives then anyone else in the world.
That type of people will use their own heads only under one condition - when the are literally no people to communicate with, absolutely not a single person. Then they will use their own head, but will still take mostly not optimal decisions. Luckily for them, they would still be smarter than other species. But that is not a solution.
