The blocking system there was not well thought out.
Itās a useless protocol that will be dead before it ever has a chance to take off. Is the signup process still restricted to four invites per user per month?
I couldnāt give away all my invites if I tried. And I briefly did try.
I have no idea how this works but I would take an invite so I could at least check it out.

This is a conversation about a new NDL press release on the Forward about threats made to houses of worship. Two I retesting things in the article:
Orange County police are quoted as saying such threats āare not a crimeā which is bullshit.
No details on any of the perpetrators for any of the many many cases listed because of an āongoing investigationā.
Those two facts leave open to speculation that by saying this is not a crime they are essentially inviting more such crime for some despicable reason and it has turned out in the past that a large percentage of these threats are made by people from within the worshiping community for some beef totally unrelated to āhateā.
Yet any sort of discussion of such anomalies in the reporting would earn you an instant ban and blacklisting.
But this is the NDL bread and butter.

I gave it the old college try, but between the snails pace of development, toxic self-righteous community, and lack of third party development, I think it might just be a dud.

Iām still active there, but Iām on all the platforms to learn how they work and see whatās up with them. Iām also active on x and threads and mastodon, and scuttlebutt, and t2, etcā¦.
I think honestly until bluesky turns on atproto and federation we wonāt know much about it and how it works.
My fear is that theyāve irreparably damaged their reputation before they can even get to atproto federation.
Yeah, I wish theād started out in the open. At this point, I almost wonder if they should not put bsky.app on the main aproto network at all, just leave it as a space for folks on it, invite the community to moderate it. Then users could choose to migrate to the main net or stay on bsky. To me thereās nothing out and out wrong with wanting a more tightly controlled social media space. Itās just you should be able to opt in or out, and know what the rules are, and have the autonomy to use the tech without the restrictions.
Honestly, that makes a lot of sense. The community there has zero understanding of what the team is trying to build and actively attacks some of the concepts that are at the core of atproto or anything like it.
Keep it as its own island might not be terrible.
