The Old Man of the Lake

is a 30-foot hemlock trunk that has floated upright in Oregon’s Crater Lake (1,900 ft deep) since at least 1896.

About four feet of the weathered log protrude above the surface as it drifts unpredictably across the 20-square-mile lake.

Its mysterious vertical buoyancy & local lore linking it to sudden storms, have made it a lasting natural legend.
