In fairness technology always has the potential to be used negativity but without a sense of morality and denying the essence of humanity I’m concerned for how we value human life. Philosophy helps but often points to a god in some sense like Platonism or the Tao. And a lot of philosophy is built on Christian culture which is being stripped away.

I think I agree - in some ways, technology strips away religion first or its main tenets, there's some destruction, an exodus of sorts, and a new myth or meme or belief takes hold of a society. Strong religious memes are important to most societies. Roman Catholic as an "urban religion" (it was a religion brought to a city that was falling apart due to technological advancement and decadence - out with the pagans, in with the new...), and then it spread in new ways.
