Popes are a shitcoin.

They 'elect' one if them every so many years, and their average age is already in their 70s at time of election, it's more like a subscription at this point.

So ...

The yearly cost of maintaining the Vatican and papacy is approximately $1.25 billion. The average number of popes elected per year over the last 300 years is 0.072 (one pope every ~13.89 years). The cost per Pope’s lifespan, representing the total cost during their average reign, is approximately $17.36 billion (range: $16.21–18.58 billion). This assumes the entire Vatican budget is attributed to each pope’s reign of ~13.89 years.
