During the holiday of Eid al-Adha, a ton of people in Cairo take trips to resorts along the coast.

As a result, the streets of Cairo that are normally jam-packed with some of the worst traffic in the world become remarkably drivable.

It’s like the difference between driving in the middle of the night vs rush hour, except this state of emptiness lasts for many days.

So, we use the opportunity to stay in Cairo, and drive to all the further parts of the city that are normally a nightmare to get to.

Nice!

Nice tip! We would love to Egypt, never been, how is the Bitcoin adoption there?

Relatively low for the size of the country. People like cash dollars and gold.

Presumably those are things you can buy food for.

I guess we need to do more on education trigger that curiosity, but it takes time, as nostr:npub15dqlghlewk84wz3pkqqvzl2w2w36f97g89ljds8x6c094nlu02vqjllm5m have said, at least 100 hours you need. People from countries like Egypt or Argentina, will always jump to the money that is easier to understand, like the US dollar, is already way better than their currencies.

Do you know of any bitcoin activists there?

I'll spend some time this month in Egypt and would love to arrange bitcoin meetup

mmm yeah it's like that in the big cities of the balkans most of the summer... all the kiddlywinks are sent off to be with baba while maika and bashta go to the beaches of greece or turkey, you know it's coming when the highschool graduates cruise around town honking horns like loons

the West definitely lacks this kind of migratory behavior to its detriment

i love stuff like this

temporary reprieves

im glad ya get to enjoy the opportunity to experience this

wonderful timing!

Time to get at least the main streets of Cairo wider, isn’t it?

Like Dann Francisco during burning man, where you can find street parking everywhere. Aka Parking Man.

I've always avoided Egypt because of the allegedly annoying merchants targeting obvious tourists like me. Maybe I need to come during Eid al-Adha?

I’ve heard people leaves the city to attend the local festivals that take place around this time.

It’s a bit of a similar situation in Jakarta, Indonesia Lyn 😉

avoid tourist traps @ ALLCOST/ lol/justjoking even if i practice exactly that

I used to live in Boise, ID. I would sit out on a downtown cafe patio on Friday and Saturday nights with the regulars, drinking and enjoying the chaos of the bar goers. Sunday morning would roll around and the city was deserted, all the cars and people dissolved away to prepare for the work week or attend church. I know it’s a drop in the bucked compared to a city like Cairo but I feel like I can appreciate the contrast, the bliss of being capable of passing from point a to b without so much shoulder bumping.

a glass half full approach to life

cheers 🙃
