Well, why did Nostr build something new instead of improving on something that already existed?

Why would any new project from the outside choose Nostr of all the designs in the world and build on that?

Well, we don't agree with Nostr's design. Despite that, we did actually offer all of our ideas to Nostr since the beginning, they never cared. We even explicitly tried to get them to consider PKARR, and it was rejected.

You cannot just convince a cult to believe in a new vision, they are loyal and blinded. You cannot depend on uninterested people to make your ideas a real.

So, we made something better by rethinking everything, instead of making something derivative and broken.

I think you are forgetting that protocols are tools for an audience you need to serve if you want your product to work.

Bridging the two would allow you could post on one and have it appear on the other, with proper threading, authorship, and identity intact. Pubky gets real time activity and a bigger audience. Nostr gets structured content, federation, and long-term storage.

Most importantly, it keeps the community together. We don’t need another protocol war. We need connection, compatibility, and freedom to choose our tools without losing our voice. Bridging helps make that real.

If pubky is better, over time nostr clients and relays will drop off and be replaced by pubky clients and servers.

You were a useful idiot during the block size wars and now bitcoin doesn't scale as a payment system to serve the world even with lightning. Now you are here demanding another all or nothing split when nostrs coming together.

it entirely depends on how you use relays, like almost everything about nostr, there is ways to achieve different goals with different configurations. most other protocols lock you into patterns, nostr doesn't do this.

also, is it censorship to stop trolls and spammers from polluting people's feeds? this is something that can be more challenging. at least until most clients finally started supporting auth it was a big problem.

the main reason we aren't overrun by them here is because there isn't enough stupid people to fleece. a large percentage of nostr users are nostr developers. the attack surface is very different from conventional networks.

what makes nostr censorship resistant is that the protocol is light and multiple relays can replicate each other and anyone with minimal skills can set them up and idk anyway what you define as censorship resistance if you don't think it has something to do with also not having to read bullshit from jerks.

The controversy during the block size wars was likely fuelled by bad actors aiming to fracture the community. It was a time that called for calm, objective focus on the shared goal, but instead, the community polarised into two extremes, neither of which offered a viable long term solution.
