This e-mail was never confirmed as if really from satoshi himself. Cuz his mails were compromised at that date. But hey that's the true vision of open source protocols.
Bitcoin was designed to be protected from the influence of charismatic leaders, even if their name is Gavin Andresen, Barack Obama, or Satoshi Nakamoto.
