Just installed from play store but keeps crashing on open. Was working from apk.

I think you need to uninstall and reinstall from the store. There is something funny happening with this upgrade path you mention

I uninstalled then installed clean from play store

Go to App/Settings, select Amethyst and clear storage.

The Store has a different signing key than the APK. The encrypted storage doesn't open if that is the case :)

No, the logo just comes up then it crashes

Yep that feels like it's the local cache. Did you also try to clear it?
