What is Damus used for? Genuinely curious. I recognize that it has a twitter style interface, so it’s probably kinda used for a similar style of media… but is it actually for talking to others yet or is it just full of bitcoin things? Trying to decide why I should choose Nostr platforms over say Fediverse/Mastodon/ or Bluesky.

There are non bitcoin people here, you just need to explore some hashtags and Search for terms of interest. Amethyst app for Android lets you follow hashtags which I find useful for bringing me lots of different content

Welcome! Keep in mind nostr it isn't just a social media platform like Twitter but a protocol that can house every social media app and much, much more.
The beauty of nostr is that you control damn near everything about your experience. From your algo (based on the people, hashtags, etc. that you follow) to your private key that you can take to any application built on the protocol. There have already been a litany of apps built to mimic many of the well-known platforms and more are currently in development. You may find the following links helpful:

i guess first thing to clarify is that Damus does not = nostr.
Damus and many other apps like, coracle, jumble, iris...etc can access nostr.
nostr is different than the other platforms, as all the other suck lol no but really there is a huge under the hood difference.
its like saying why do i go to the wild to and enjoy nature when i can go to the zoo!
lastly. in the settings on damus. you can mute certain words. i suggest you mute the word "bitcoin" and you wont see it ever again.

There's a massive demand here for non Bitcoin content... Especially amongst the bitcoiners. Talking about the greatest asset humans have ever had does actually get old. And I'm being very serious.
It's my favorite thing about this new wave of users and why I've given hours to help onboard people. I want fresh perspectives and new content categories.
