I found dumbells easier on my shoulders as long as I worked up through the weights to build up all the stabilizing muscles.

Good to know. I generally prefer barbell but try to mix it up as I go.

I have some shoulder issues leftover from my time in the military. I learned to work around them.

Makes sense. Most of the vets I work with have some issues.
