Get a good knife and marry it for life. I do 95% of the stuff with a sharp knife I made a decade ago with an old file.

I have a set of some chisels somewhere, but when I got pregnant first time it didn't make me feel good and stayed hidden from kids since. Maybe now 6 years later it'll be ok to dig them out👀
I have a three year old and he sees me carving all day. When he wants to, he can take the knife and try, but I stop everything I'm doing, sit him with me and teach him proper use. It happens really often with most activities.
