Some people start with a real disadvantage when it comes to accessing financial opportunities. It’s not a matter of merit or effort: with equal skills, unconscious bias and prejudice often play a role. As a result, certain profiles inspire more distrust than others, which limits access to positions, networks, or funding.
This is a reality that must be addressed, even if it makes people uncomfortable. But adopting a victim mindset doesn’t change anything: what truly makes a difference is understanding these barriers and finding ways to work around or overcome them—by acting with good intentions and being undeniably competent.
