I understand your frustration with it. I had the same experience when I was new to plemora/fediverse. I posted, asked questions, responded to people's posts, and FUCKING NO ONE WOULD RESPOND.
It was so fucking annoying and made zero sense to me. I'm sitting here watching all these strangers having conversations about stuff with out any context.
I didn't fucking get it. It went on like that for a long asssssss time and I just used it to glance at.
So one day, I turned my attitude around and started being more optimistic and positive about using it again. So my happy ass was asking a bunch of questions posting memes responding to people all this bullshit.
And it was the same thing again fucking nothing. So I just got fucking pissed off and started talking shit to every mother fucker on there. Firing off insults like no tomorrow one after another.
Then well what do you know, all of a sudden my notification start blowing up. Everybody was wondering what the hell's going on they thought I was a damn bot LOL and then from there it changed that's how I had to get people's attention was to fucking insult them take their selfies and draw dicks on them and post it it was ridiculous and stupid LOL fucking dumb.

The idea of a fucking 'feed' ........... generating every random jackasses thoughts on what they think about historical literature, what they had for breakfast in the morning, and updates on their new Linux photon Ubuntu bridge that connects a node to a binary while their taking a shit, is of absolutely ZERO value or source of interest or entertainment to me.
