To those who caught it:

What was your take on The Chris Rock Special?

I felt like he did a great job choosing Baltimore as a venue because of his chosen rhetoric.

I think it started too slow. The colorism jokes definitely aged him. The Kardashian jokes felt unnecessary but they gave me a little chuckle. He showed his mastery when he got everyone thinking with the abortion jokes and the jokes about his kids.

Overall, I think he ended strong and solidified himself as a great. Although, I don’t think his jokes transcend generations like a few of his peers it’s fitting for where he is in his life. I’m torn because artistically, compared to the rest of his portfolio, this felt lackluster. When I look at it as a man professionally addressing an unfortunate situation… I have to respect him.

Was it my favorite? No

Would I recommend it? No

Would I have watched it if he hadn’t gotten slapped? Yes

Did I enjoy it? Sure… but it’s for a specific audience.

Did it change my stance on the slap? No - knowing Netflix premiered its very 1st live stream afterwards makes me think it was definitely staged.
