Disagree.

Damus users deserve better than a placebo 🤙 button the 🤙 intended receiver will choose not to see.

The beauty of #onlyzaps is that it is opt-in, and that you cannot impose your preference on others, and vice versa.

This is the #nostr way.

It’s not a placebo, because others can see the like even if the note’s author cannot. Just because someone writes something shouldn’t mean that he gets to control readers’ reactions to it.

What exactly is the use case here, if the author of a note does not want to and will not see the like?

Are you asking for a read receipt?

If you want to bring the note to others attention you could re-note, quote-note, comment, or zap.

We’re going to see more notes like that in the future. Personally, I prefer my feed and threads not to be cluttered by them.

That’s great, and that’s your preference. You will tailor what you see to what best suits you!

Damus is going to implement a feature to filter out notes like

- “Thanks!”

- “Thanks.”

- “Yes!”

- “This.”

- “Agreed.”

- “++”

etc.?

You can manage your signal to noise by unfollowing someone you follow. You can also mute users.

#onlyzaps users are opting out of the likes to increase their signal.

But a like isn't noise. It's an icon below a note.

Forcing people to reply with "+1 agreed!" creates more noise, not less.

A like may not be noise for you. It is for me, and others.

No one is forcing anyone to do anything here. #nostr is completely voluntary.
