Sounds like you let others "perceived" opinions about how YOU wish to dress effect how you dress. All that should matter is that YOU are comfortable wearing ahat you wear. You should seek others approvals to wear what you like.

I wear whatever I like, or I wouldn't have gone in my sweater last night. I'm just aware that it's not the norm.

And I don't want creeps to get a free peak show.
