There is an option in Primal to toggle off autoplay of videos. I assume that would help, but it also hurts user experience. Autoplay is nice. Burning through so much data isn’t. lol

My favorite solution I was offered is "Don't use Nostr on your phone." 🤦‍♂️

🤦‍♂️

That's not an option and certainly not the solution. I wouldn't even want to use it without a phone. How ? 😂

The first week January 2023 I used 10GB of data. I changed plans to unlimited data after that week.

🤣 Thankfully I’m on an unlimited plan, but I know it isn’t the case for everyone. And even with that, at some threshold they start to throttle your speed or deprioritize your connection even with unlimited plans.

It's not just users, It's our hosting services too, bandwidth adds up quick. Nostr needs HLS in the worst way, interest of static MP4.

Interestingly, if your MP4 encoded right, range reads kickin and you never download the full thing if you don’t watch it fully. So HLS is good (if you use ladders for quality) but GIFs and PFPs are a killer bandwidth suckers

But I need my 2mb avatar 😭

Yes ladders please so I can have hq when needed 🙏

Working on it now, did a prototype more than a year ago and it was good. Make sure amethyst supports HLS so I can automatically redirect for it

Technically we support, but I guess it depends on file formats and encodings.

m3u8 ?

It should work ( at least it works on live streams ) :)

Same thing, thanks! What is the user agent that you send when you fetch the media? Is it okhttp or some permutation of Amethyst/* ?

Yep, Amethyst/ version
