would you consider reading these books yourself? I’m just not sure how credible this Kaku guy is, and I hate wasting my time & energy reading if it’s not a credible source.

kaku is the worst possible source to learn physics from

I prefer susskind, feynman. brian greene is quite good for high level string theory stuff, actual string theory technicals is quite difficult.

Useless stuff in practice. Kaku is an entertainment genius cause he managed to make it not absolutely boring. I suppose that's the only practical utility of string theory: selling documentaries on the History channel.

I once watched a documentary of the history of string theory that made the case string theorists have never actually made any empirical ground and they're always promising results for funding that they never deliver on.

What do you think of it, aside from a casual interest?

Well I guess these books are just going to collect dust
