I have a shitty ISP that caps my data at 1.2TB per month. I installed a great router that keeps really good accounting of my activity on the LAN, and my #umbrel node eats data like a fat man at Golden Corral.

Upon review of the node, it’s easily maxed out on connections and no upper limits of data served. How to reign it in?

Putty/SSH to your umbrel using your credentials for the host, in my case, it’s running on a fairly beefy Dell laptop.

Navigate to ~/umbrel/app-data/bitcoin/data/bitcoin and nano bitcoin.conf.

On the first blank line (use down arrrow) type:

maxuploadtarget=500 (the number is in MiB and adjust it as necessary for your situation)

maxconnections=35 (the number here is the number of connections allowed - bitcoind will adjust the types of connections in a ratio)

Hit CTRL-X and Y and restart your node with the command ~/umbrel/scripts/app restart bitcoin

Yes, it deprives the network of resources you have, but saves you from thanklessly donating to your favorite shitfuck wokeass ISP.

Edit: the last command requires sudo:

sudo ~/umbrel/scripts/app restart bitcoin
