With zaps being public I thought about creating a bot that does some "Fell for scammers award" and "most successful sob story award" ... The bot would reply to all those identified sob story spammers to protect noobs but also call out those that feed those scams as you get what you pay for, so please don't pay for fake stories.

I like the idea. Maybe the award tbing is a bit too mean. But a reply (for other anons) and a DM to the "donor" telling them this is a scam is brilliant. Triggering this when someone zaps the note is a much lighter approach than the "spam hunter" bots, which often end up spamming the relays harder than the scam bots.
A public award to the top donor once a week and the rest DMs?

I still think the public award idea might be a bit too harsh. In my head, a "top donor" is a deeply Catholic Irish grandma who somehow joined Nostr because her maxi grandson Seamus (that lives in her basement; but is definitely buying a Lambo with all his holdings) told her to. Nostr Grandma who falls for scams must be protected at all costs. 🤣
I'm worried that publicly calling victims out might drive people away from Nostr instead of correcting their behaviour. Maybe we could post a public message with a meme, without outing the donor. Something like: "Oh crap, another anon fell for a scam on Nostr" (random meme) – Top zap to scammers of the month: 12k. Kind of like what the UTXO bots do.
And the DM can be exactly as you said. Agreed. Well, NIP-17 is still there, even though lots of GiftWrapped messages never get read by anyone, lol.
