I guess you can self host pwa and have control over code

Not gonna lie, I kinda thought this was the point of Nostr open source projects pushing for PWAs. They’ll be censorship resistant because they can pop up on new domains and be hosted anywhere and everywhere.

PWAs are pretty great, but not the ultimate answer, sadly. That is partially due to support and partially due to limitations. Therefore, in most cases, people will develop native apps instead to make it work. On Android, this is pretty easy - if the Play Store rejects you, just install the APK. Not so much on Apple, yet.

I forgot the exact limitations that PWAs are restricted by, but I think one of them was notifications and registering custom URL handles.

PWAs can do both.

Snort installs a handler and supports notifications, as an example. I’m sure there are limitations but not sure what as it applies to nostr.
