Yes. The payer is trusting what they see on a device they dont control.

Like real life.

The vendor risks their reputation if they were to cheat the customer.

Also they’d have to have enough technical skill to modify the lightning wallet to be able to display amount that is different for something that may not even work as you have full control over how much you can pay per transaction or day.

All this effort for potentially zero gain and a risk of damaging their reputation.

Easier to convince someone to buy more than go through the trouble above
