I had an interesting 'realization' regarding the Penrose/Hameroff Orch OR (Orchestrated Objective Reduction) theory for consciousness.
The overview of the theory is that 'conscious moments' are created by the collapse of the wave function within microtubules in the neuron network. It is the most coherent theory I have encountered to explain the phenomenon, although I cannot say for sure that it is correct.
A simplified way of explaining this from my understanding is that each moment is a collapsed wave function, going one way or the other, and the process repeating constantly at varying frequencies. It would also mimic the recursive nature of magnetic fields to a certain extent.
According to Hameroff, plants have conscious moments once every few minutes, whereas humans have them 10 million times a second. It is the defining characteristic that makes humans the apex amongst all physical life.
In this context, 'elevating your consciousness' or 'raising your vibration' would suggest increasing the frequency of these conscious moments, thereby elevating the intensity of ones conscious experience, which is exactly what I believe that psychedelics do, or as I like to now call them, frequency modulators.
However, in order to sustain elevated consciousness one would have to do so without exogenous means.
Look inward.
