So the Indo European language forms the basis of all European languages spoken today.

The Corded Ware people migrated out of central Europe into northern Europe around 2500BC, spreading their DNA, culture and language as far as Ukraine.

The current theory is that proto Indo European speakers were nomads from the Pontic Steppe who in about 4000 BC suddenly exploded outwards, creating the Corded Ware, Bell Beaker and Battleaxe cultures of northern Europe, Western Europe and Scandinavia.

The Steppe nomads spread their language and culture as far as India.

The Bell Beaker people became the Celts, and enjoyed the British Isles right up until the Romans arrived and then buggered off, leaving a power vacuum that the Angles, Saxons and Jutes were happy to fill. They supplanted them in short order, driving the Celts and the Picts to the extremities of the island.

That's one theory. Some burials have been found of genetically Celtic men being buried with full Anglo Saxon honours.

I find migration and genetics fascinating too. My more recent ancestry is from Europe and India (Sikh), so I consider myself Indo-European. Have you ever read Jarred Diamonds 'Guns, Germs and Steel'?
