I’m all for paying government employees more, not less. I want my government to be small, lean and mean - as in ruthlessly efficient and more than competent. I want it to attract the best talent and pay them better than private sector would. That, or let the private sector overtake or oversee some or many of the functions of various agencies where it makes sense to do so.

Agree except the private sector always, often have misaligned incentives when it comes to the public services. Especially public services that by nature require monopolies.

but your main point that government should be lean and efficient is spot on. We don't need no government, we just need good government.

💯 I also have a felling that we are loosing major talent in these rash firing sprees , a lot of highly competent people with high integrity were just bound by corrupt superiors , funding constraints and weird upper agendas , they were never the problem , if those constraint are gone coupled with their deep experience they can be our most qualified for the job .

DOGE should give a raise to any government worker for every subpar co-worker they report who ends up getting fired

lol

welcome back

private sector has competition, goverment does not. They make their money through taxation not commerce, and there is where the incentives part ways.

gov get paid no matter what, private goes bankrupt if they screw up (replaced by someone better/cheaper)

You could make it work in theory with some defined objectives. If you meet them you get a bonus and if you don’t then you’re re-evaluated (same as private sector).

But ultimately I agree, most things should be handled by private sector. Govt should be small and focused, transparent, accountable and competitive. It’s all about the incentives and proper way to motivating and rewarding people. It can be done.
