I think the larger the entity, the more likely it's corrupt or lacking in empathy, and that's mostly just human nature.
People in smaller groups, like in small towns, small businesses, and families, are in close contact with each other. We behave quite differently face-to-face, with people we know, because rewards and consequences come directly from those affected by our speech and actions.
But when decision-makers are separated from the people they affect, like in governments, large corporations, and big cities, they lose the positive effects of those intimate connections. They lose their empathy because they aren't face-to-face with the consequences of their harmful behaviors toward people.
Not to mention, psychopaths and sociopaths are attracted to larger centers of power and control.
Small towns and small businesses are still mostly full of good-hearted, passionate people who care about contributing to the world around them. They crave that intimacy and connection.
That's why Nostr is so much better than the massive platforms. This is a far smaller group of higher-quality people who seek a better experience and more intimate connections. They care most about the things that really matter in life.
