I didn't take offense to this because it doesn't apply to me, but in all seriousness this is why I don't hang out with other programmers LOL.

But I don't post much either, which I'll have to fix. l'll give you that, you post effortlessly while I have to actually make myself post.

It seems that substantive discussion is in the process of moving off all of these scrolling feed type sites - back to forums and blogs where it belongs I guess.

But anyway:

-X still has a critical mass of users that allows there to be some intelligent posters, but you can't say anything controversial ( I got sent to the penalty box recently for just a moderate and general insult, nothing targeted ) and even finding content can be a challenge.

-Nostr you can say anything but it's not ready for primetime. The crowd here makes me think of guys who had an edgy libertarian phase in college but then never moved past it. That seems to be a constant for any crowd with software nerds.

i do not think forums are better than social media, unless you are the moderator then it is better FOR YOU.

a blog is like a forum but instead of moderators subtly steering the conversation a blogger plainly states what you are expected to think and the reader may or may not even be allowed to comment.

social media is on the opposite end of the spectrum where moderation is kept to minimum - generally you can say anything that is not racist, antisemitic, xenophobic or misogynist ... whereas on a forum you could have a long list of rules such as no linking to other forums, no posting advertisements and so on.

and of course on NOSTR there are no rules but blatantly illegal content will be removed by relays because they don't want to go to prison. and if some relays choose to remove content that is legal ( haven't seen this happen yet ) it won't make any difference because of the redundant nature of relays.

as for NOSTR crowd you nailed it ...

it's like they voted for Ron Paul in 2008 and then got hit on the head and never progressed past that phase ...

like Boomers that still listen to the music from the 70s ...

or rather they have picked up some pet issues like B1tc0in and Carnivore but ONLY the ones that were directly adjacent to the Austrian Economics school ...

they do not seem to have a broad interest in different kinds of knowledge but are basically just Crypto-Libertarians with a side of Carnivore ...
