Most people either cannot or will not go to these lengths.

Also try OsmAnd. It uses the Open Street Map, it’s not perfect but it does the job and you can use it offline. It’s on F droid and the play store, but if you download on f droid you get the paid version for free

Organicmaps is my preferred.

I really like that obtainium is an option they list in their install directions.
