Good morning ☕️

I started to work on an email alias service powered by nostr.

I stucked a bit, because I started to try to solve all privacy problems I see.

But if I can find 1 thing in which I can make this better then other alias services on market, it worth already to roll it out. Also users shall think the same.

What is the benefit of it over e.g.: SimpleLogin?

1️⃣ You don't need an email address to use it.

2️⃣ Service does not know which alias belongs to whom.

3️⃣ Easier to send email from alias.

4️⃣ Emails are stored on user defined servers (relays)

(5️⃣ Uses nostr as login)

Common features

1️⃣ Emails are stored encrypted.

2️⃣ Senders won't know your identity.

3️⃣ Open-source/self-hostable

The feature I want, that seems pretty hard to achieve is, that the service has no access to the content of your emails.

Cool!

What about using nostr to enhance existing email services/protocol? That could be already very valuable in terms of killing AI spam. It is something I would like to work on as soon as I understand the nostr protocol.

You mean to use a social graph as credibility, or to use nostr as a common database for spam signatures, that anyone can query and update? Or something else you mean?

The former. If we can couple an email we receive to a nostr signed account a lot of trust based stuff is solved. A bit like pgp signatures.

Aha! That is an interesting thing. Also encryption and security is solved.

The hardest part is to make this compatible with the smtp protocol, or support this for generic email addresses.

Yes indeed! I'll dive into it when I have a bit more time. I'll keep you up to date if you want.
