Will the current web of trust model by Iris be removed or will gossip be complementing it? Both models have similarities I’d reckon as both are dependent on active users base
I'll add gossip model https://bountsr.org/gossip-model/
Nip65 is a bit weird, I don't understand the rationale of not using kind 0 events. https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/65.md#why-not-in-kind-0-metadata
But might still add support for it
Discussion
Web of trust stays the same. Gossip just enables discovery of new relays and retrieval of events from relays defined by other users.
I like the web of trust model, but how does it accommodate new users?
Great question! Martti would be best to answer this. Having spam filtering system without impacting user adoption is extremely crucial.
Iris is based on active user engagement so is you are an existing user, it’s based on follows and engagements (likes, comments etc). if you are a new user, you’d probably be engaging in circles you are keen on. So far my followers count only differs by 2-3% if I compare it with snort which is low delta, and the reduction is likely due to passive users.
Additionally Iris’s social network is based on configurable filter so if your N=3 friends of friends is too tight a circle, you can expand the degree of network.
Was trying to look for this post only to see many amazing Iris updates along the way! Nice work Martti!
On this, thanks for the soon to be added gossip feature into Iris!
I noticed on each of uncle Bob’s notes it indicates which relay the messages are from. And coracle’s relay indicate which users are on each of the relays. Both of this features subconsciously and constantly reminds me that Nostr is diff, and that relays play a heavy role. Hope this adds value!
