Ground control made some mistakes. They are ordered to fly, climb, descend wherever and however fast by ground control. Ground control probably having a shitty day.

I can understand ground control when you’re near an airport as there is no way you could see or know about every plane taking off or landing, but I firmly believe that pilots should be in control of where they fly once they are airborne. Ground control can still keep an eye out in case they miss something, but a plane with its own radar would be a lot more accurate than ground controls.
Honestly, between parts falling off of planes mid flight, tires blowing out on the runway and stories like this, I consider myself very lucky that I had no issues when I bounced around the country in 2020 looking for a new home.
I should have meant tower control.
When flying into controlled airspace or flying with Instrument flight rules you have to have ATC tell you what to do. So you don’t hit someone in the clouds for example.
Once the tower guides and lands you, they switch you off to ground control for taxi operations and where to go.
Air Traffic Control screwed up and let two planes nearly hit each other.
